ENUGU RANGERS ARE NEWLY CROWNED NIGERIA PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

Enugu Rangers took no chance in their final charge for the Nigeria Professional League title as they went rampant against their visitors El-Kanemi warriors by trashing them 4-0 on the last match day of the season at the Cathedral Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Sunday evening.

Rangers had come into the game with one last step on the trophy, being on top of the log with 60 points while their closest rival, Rivers United on 57-points but permutations were on that should anything go wrong for Rangers and should Rivers United defeat Akwa United in Uyo, it would be down to checking goals difference, a situation that Rangers did not want to be.

El-Kanemi players had earlier sent a threat at the pre-match comments, as voiced by their top scorer, Ibrahim Mustapha that they are in Enugu for a revenge, recalling that two seasons ago, El-Kanemi were at the point of victory but it was Rangers that denied them the needed points on the final day.

Rangers took the lead in an early minute as Chisom Egbuchulam opening the score in three minutes of play from the penalty kick.
Osas Okoro double the lead before the first 45 minutes of play. In the second 45 minutes, the opening scorer Chisom Egbuchulam give his team the third goal following an exhibition of beautiful combination with Obinna Nwobodo and Okoro.
Egbuchulam give himself the last day hat-trick from converting second spot kick of the day after his team-mate Ifeanyi Egwim was brought down in the box by El-Kanemi goalkeeper Kazeem Yekeen who was immediately shown red card by the referee for the foul committed.

Egwim's injury however produced a bit of an anti-climax to the celebrations when ambulance arrived to the stadium to take him away for urgent treatment on his leg from the tackle on him by the El-Knamei goalkeeper.

Source said that Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has ordered that Egwim should be immediately flown abroad for specialist treatment on his injury.

The City of Enugu had multitude of joyous fans on hand to celebrate the return of Rangers to glory after 32 years of no trophy to their cabinet. The atmosphere was incredible with a non-stop of rendition of the club's anthem by the fans, 'Holy! Holy! Holy! Enugu Rangers another champion'

Coach Imama Amapakabo is overwhelmed with joy for bringing Rangers back to reckoning, he said he was optimistic from the begining of the season that his team[Rangers] will finish the league with the tilte and they work hard for it.
On his future with the club, he said: "It all depends on what the management wants."

CONGRATULATIONS TO ENUGU RANGERS AND THE PEOPLE OF ENUGU FOR BEING THE CHAMPION OF THE JUST CONCLUDED NPFL GAMES.
