ARSENE WENGER Urged Players To Be Focus Ahead Of Champions League Clash With Basel

Arsene Wenger has challenged Arsenal to prove they have learned their lessons by beating FC Basel.

The Gunners take on the Swiss champions on a high after blowing Chelsea away in Saturday's London derby, with their best performance of the young season.

Wenger said: "In life, you can only show that you have learned. Last year we went to Leicester and won 5-2 and three days later we lost at home to Olympiakos, 3-2.
"So we have to go from different competitions to different competitions produce the same performance.
"We have to show we are capable of being consistent but also ambitious. It means lets put even more effort in.
"As well I think the team is on the way up. It's important not to have setback, an unexpected setback, and we keep the quality very high in our performance."

There is little danger of Arsenal underestimating Basel - a former club of Gunners midfield duo Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny - given their track record against English sides.

Wenger said: "It's the team who dominate the Swiss championship for years, who has excellent results in England because they have beaten everybody in England - Man United and Chelsea and Liverpool.
"They have experience and we face a team who is well organised, not under pressure as they dominate always their league.
"They know they will come back in the Champions League again next season."

Arsenal will be without suspended striker Olivier Giroud after his red card in the group campaign-opening draw with Paris Saint-Germain and midfielder Francis Coquelin, who suffered a knee injury against Chelsea.

But Wenger said: "It should be a short-term injury because the scan was quite positive and I think it will be three weeks out for Coquelin.
