Salami scores as KuPS crash out of Finnish Cup

The Nigeria was on target for the Canaries, but it was not enough to cage the reigning Finnish Cup champions

Gbolahan Salami scored for KuPS in their 4-1 defeat to Taye Taiwo’s HJK in the Finnish Cup quarter final played on Wednesday evening.
The Super Eagles forward was on target in the 79th minute but it counted for noting as Alfredo Morelos’ hat-trick and Toni Kolehmainen’s strike halted Marko Rajamäki’s men from booking a semi-final ticket at the Väinölänniemi Stadium.
Kolehmainen put HJK ahead in the 39th minute before goals from Morelos in the 53rd and 73rd minute put the game beyond the reach of KuPS.
However, Salami reduced the deficit for the Canaries with less than 11 minutes to play but that proved a mere consolation as Morelos completed his treble with an 85th minute penalty.
The trio of Salami, Paul Onobi and Azubuike Egwuekwe were on for the entire duration of the game, while Taiwo was handed a starter’s shirt by HJK but was replaced by Ivan Tatomirovic in the 76th minute.
